And to Thamood their brother Salih; he said, 'O my people, serve God! You have no god other than He; there has now come to you a clear sign from your Lord -- this is the She-camel of God, to be a sign for you. Leave her that she may eat in God's earth, and do not touch her with evil, lest you be seized by a painful chastisement. 73 And call to mind when He made you successors after 'Ad and gave you power in the earth so that you took for yourselves palaces in its plains and hewed out dwellings in the mountains. Remember, then, the wondrous bounties of Allah and do not go about creating mischief in the land.' 74 Said the eminent ones who were arrogant among his people to those who were oppressed - to those who believed among them, "Do you [actually] know that Salih is sent from his Lord?" They said, "Indeed we, in that with which he was sent, are believers." 75 [But] the arrogant ones said: "Behold, what you have come to believe in we refuse to regard as true!" 76 So they killed the she-camel and insolently defied the Commandment of their Lord, and said: "O Salih (Saleh)! Bring about your threats if you are indeed one of the Messengers (of Allah)." 77 Suddenly, an earthquake jolted them and they were left motionless in their homes. 78 And he turned away from them and said, "O my people, I had certainly conveyed to you the message of my Lord and advised you, but you do not like advisors." 79 And We sent Lut, when he said unto his people: commit ye an indecency wherewith none hath preceded you in the worlds? 80 You approach men lustfully instead of women. Truly, you are a nation who exceed (in sin)' 81 Their only answer was: 'Banish them from your town. They are a people who pretend to be pure.' 82 Then We delivered Lot and his household save his wife who stayed behind, 83 We rained down on them a shower [of brimstone]. Then see what was the end of the evil-doers. 84
