And to Thamood We sent their brother Salih. He said: 'Worship Allah, my nation, for you have no god except He. A clear proof has come to you from your Lord. Here is the shecamel of Allah, a sign for you. Leave her to graze in the earth of Allah and do not touch her with evil, lest a painful punishment seizes you. 73 Remember, how you were made leaders after the people of 'Ad, and were settled on the land so that you could construct on the plains palaces, and carve dwellings out of mountains. So think of the favours of God, and do not act with corruption in the land." 74 Said the eminent ones who were arrogant among his people to those who were oppressed - to those who believed among them, "Do you [actually] know that Salih is sent from his Lord?" They said, "Indeed we, in that with which he was sent, are believers." 75 The proud oppressors said, "We reject that which you believe in". 76 So they killed the she-camel and insolently defied the Commandment of their Lord, and said: "O Salih (Saleh)! Bring about your threats if you are indeed one of the Messengers (of Allah)." 77 Thereupon a shocking catastrophe seized them, so that they lay prostrate in their dwellings. 78 Saleh turned away from them and said: "O my people, I conveyed to you the message of my Lord and warned you; but you do not like those who wish you well." 79 Lot told his people, "Why do you commit such indecent acts that have never been committed by anyone before? 80 You approach men lustfully in place of women. You are a people who exceed all bounds.' 81 The only answer given by his people was, "Turn them out of your town. They are people who regard themselves to be pure." 82 We saved (Lot) and his family except his wife who remained with the rest. 83 And We rained a shower (of stones) upon them; therefore see what sort of fate befell the culprits! 84
