And to Thamood We sent their brother Salih. He said: 'Worship Allah, my nation, for you have no god except He. A clear proof has come to you from your Lord. Here is the shecamel of Allah, a sign for you. Leave her to graze in the earth of Allah and do not touch her with evil, lest a painful punishment seizes you. 73 "And remember when He made you successors after 'Ad (people) and gave you habitations in the land, you build for yourselves palaces in plains, and carve out homes in the mountains. So remember the graces (bestowed upon you) from Allah, and do not go about making mischief on the earth." 74 The chiefs of those who were stiff-necked amongst His people said unto those who were counted weak - unto such of them as believed: know ye that Salih is a sent one of his Lord? They said: verily we are believers in that wherewith he hath been sent. 75 Those who were arrogant answered: "We do not believe in what you believe." 76 So they hamstrung the she-camel, and insolently defied the commandment of their Lord, saying, "O Salih! Bring upon us what you threaten us with if you are indeed a messenger." 77 So the earthquake seized them, and morning found them prostrate in their dwelling-place. 78 And [Salih] turned away from them, and said: "O my people! Indeed, I delivered unto you my Sustainer's message and gave you good advice: but you did not love those who gave [you] good advice." 79 And Lot, when he said to his people, 'What, do you commit such indecency as never any being in all the world committed before you? 80 Most surely you come to males in lust besides females; nay you are an extravagant people. 81 And naught was the answer of his people save that they said: drive them forth from your city, verily they are a people who would be pure! 82 Then We delivered him and his household, save his wife: she was among the lingerers. 83 the while We rained a rain [of destruction] upon the others: and behold what happened in the end to those people lost in sin! 84
