We have sent no Prophet to any city but that We seized its people with misery and hardship, that haply they might be humble; 94 Then We gave them good in the place of evil until they became many and said: Distress and happiness did indeed befall our fathers. Then We took them by surprise while they did not perceive. 95 And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allah, We would have opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth; but they denied [the messengers], so We seized them for what they were earning." 96 Do the inhabitants of the villages feel secure from Our Might coming to them at night whilst they sleep? 97 Do the people of the cities feel secure Our might shall not come upon them in daylight while they are playing? 98 Do they feel secure against God's devising? No one feels secure against God's devising except for those doomed to ruin. 99
