To every town that We sent a Prophet, We tested its inhabitants through distress and adversity so that perhaps they would submit themselves to Us. 94 But when We changed hardship to ease, and they rose and prospered, (they forgot Our favours) and said: "Our ancestors had also known suffering and joy." So We caught them unawares. 95 Yet had the peoples of the cities believed and been godfearing, We would have opened upon them blessings from heaven and earth; but they cried lies, and so We seized them for what they earned. 96 Do the people of those towns feel secure that Our punishment will not come to them at night while they are asleep? 97 Or else did they feel secure against its coming in broad daylight while they played about (care-free)? 98 Can they remain secure against the plan of God? Only they feel secure against the plan of God who are certain of being ruined. 99
