Never have We sent a Prophet to a place without trying its people with adversity and hardship that they may humble themselves. 94 Then We changed their suffering into prosperity, until they grew and multiplied, and began to say: "Our fathers (too) were touched by suffering and affluence"... Behold! We called them to account of a sudden, while they realised not (their peril). 95 Had the people of the towns believed (in Our revelations) and maintained piety, We would have certainly showered on them Our blessings from the sky and the earth. But they called Our revelations lies, thus Our torment struck them for their evil deeds. 96 What! do the people of the towns then feel secure from Our punishment coming to them by night while they sleep? 97 Or do the people of the dwellings not fear that Our wrath may come upon them during the day, while they are playing? 98 Do they feel secure against God's devising? No one feels secure against God's devising except for those doomed to ruin. 99
