The great ones among Pharaoh's people said: "Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge, 109 who wants to drive you out of your land! " [Said Pharaoh:] "What, then, do you advise?" 110 They said (unto Pharaoh): Put him off (a while) - him and his brother - and send into the cities summoners, 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 And the enchanters came to Firon (and) said: We must surely have a reward if we are the prevailing ones. 113 Pharaoh replied: 'Certainly, and you shall be among those who are near to me.' 114 They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers? 115 He replied, "Throw yours first." Their great magic bewitched people's eyes and terrified them. 116 Then We directed Moses: 'Now you throw your rod.' And lo! it swallowed up all their false devices. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed, and that which they had brought vanished. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and utterly humiliated. 119 threw themselves down in prostration 120 They said: We believe in the Lord of the worlds, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They said, “We shall return to our Lord.” 125 for thou takest vengeance on us only because we have come to believe in our Sustainer's messages as soon as they came to us. O our Sustainer! Shower us with patience in adversity, and make us die as men who have surrendered themselves unto Thee!" 126
