The chiefs of the people of Fir'awn said: verily this is a magician knowing. 109 and said, "He wants to expel you from your land." They asked (others), " what is your opinion in the matter? 110 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send announcers to the cities to gather people.” 111 "That they bring up to you all well-versed sorcerers." 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said: "Is there reward for us if we succeed?" 113 Pharaoh replied, "Certainly, and you shall also become my courtiers." 114 They said: O Musa! either thou cast down, or we shall be the ones to cast down. 115 He said, “You throw”; when they threw, they cast a magic spell upon the people’s eyes and terrified them, and they brought a great magic. 116 Then We revealed to Moses: 'Now, throw down your staff' And thereupon it swallowed up their false invention. 117 ۞ Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. 118 So the (great ones) were vanquished there and then, and were made to look small. 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 They said, 'We believe in the Lord of all Being, 121 The Lord of Musa and Haroun. 122 Said Pharaoh, "You believed in him before I gave you permission. Indeed, this is a conspiracy which you conspired in the city to expel therefrom its people. But you are going to know. 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all!" 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 Thou takest vengeance upon us only because we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour out upon us patience, and gather us unto Thee surrendering.' 126
