The nobles of Pharaoh said: "He surely is a clever magician. 109 who desires to expel you from your land; what do you command?' 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 "That they bring up to you all well-versed sorcerers." 112 And the magicians came to Firaun, and said, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 113 He answered: Yes, and surely ye shall be of those brought near (to me). 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 He said, “You throw”; when they threw, they cast a magic spell upon the people’s eyes and terrified them, and they brought a great magic. 116 And we revealed unto Musa: cast down thy rod. And lo! it was swallowing up that which they had feigned. 117 ۞ Thus the truth was upheld, and the falsehood that they practised was exposed. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and utterly humiliated. 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 They said: "We believe in the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Said Pharaoh: "Have you come to believe in him ere I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have cunningly devised in this [my] city in order to drive out its people hence! But in time you shall come to know, [my revenge]: 123 Surely I will cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides and thereafter I will crucify you all. 124 They replied, "We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 for thou takest vengeance on us only because we have come to believe in our Sustainer's messages as soon as they came to us. O our Sustainer! Shower us with patience in adversity, and make us die as men who have surrendered themselves unto Thee!" 126
