The nobles of Pharaoh said: "He surely is a clever magician. 109 who seeks to drive you out from your land. What would you have us do?' 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 "That they bring up to you all well-versed sorcerers." 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said: "Is there reward for us if we succeed?" 113 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 114 They said: O Musa! will you cast, or shall we be the first to cast? 115 "You cast it first," answered Moses. When they cast their spell, they bewitched the eyes of the people and petrified them by conjuring up a great charm. 116 Then We directed Moses: 'Now you throw your rod.' And lo! it swallowed up all their false devices. 117 ۞ So the truth was proved and their works were disproved. 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 And the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves. 120 They said, “We have accepted faith in the Lord Of The Creation.” 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 But Pharaoh said: "You have come to accept belief in Him without my permission! This surely is a plot you have hatched to expel the people from the land. You will soon come to know. 123 I will cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and then crucify you all' 124 The magicians said, "We will certainly return to Our Lord. 125 "But thou dost wreak thy vengeance on us simply because we believed in the Signs of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience and constancy, and take our souls unto thee as Muslims (who bow to thy will)! 126
