Said the Chiefs of the people of Pharaoh: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed. 109 "He wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?" 110 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send announcers to the cities to gather people.” 111 “To bring all the expert magicians to you.” 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh. They said, "Indeed for us is a reward if we are the predominant." 113 Pharaoh replied, "Certainly, and you shall also become my courtiers." 114 They said: "O Moses! wilt thou throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 Moses said: 'You throw.' So when they threw [their rods], they enchanted the eyes of the people, and struck them with awe, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 And [then] We inspired Moses, "Throw down thy staff!" - and lo! it swallowed up all their deceptions: 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing. 118 Thus were they there defeated and brought low. 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 [and] exclaiming: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Firon said: Do you believe in Him before I have given you permission? Surely this is a plot which you have secretly devised in this city, that you may turn out of it its people, but you shall know: 123 most certainly shall I cut off your hands and your feet in great numbers, because of [your] perverseness, and then I shall most certainly crucify you, in great numbers, all together!" 124 They said: Surely to our Lord shall we go back: 125 And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]." 126
