Said the Chiefs of the people of Pharaoh: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed. 109 Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?" 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 who should bring to you every skillful magician." 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said, "We must have our reward if we are to gain a victory over him (Moses)". 113 He answered: Yes, and surely ye shall be of those brought near (to me). 114 They said: O Musa! will you cast, or shall we be the first to cast? 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 They were therefore defeated here and they turned back humiliated. 119 And the sorcerers fell down prostrate. 120 [and] exclaiming: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Pharaoh said: Ye believe in Him before I give you leave! Lo! this is the plot that ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive its people hence. But ye shall come to know! 123 I will cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and then crucify you all' 124 They replied, "We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
