The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said, "This is most surely a skillful magician, 109 "He wishes to drive you away from the land. So what do you advise?" 110 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- 111 who should bring to you every skillful magician." 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh. They said, "Indeed for us is a reward if we are the predominant." 113 Pharaoh replied, "Certainly, and you shall also become my courtiers." 114 So they said: "O Moses, you may cast your spell first, or we shall cast ours." 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 And we revealed unto Musa: cast down thy rod. And lo! it was swallowing up that which they had feigned. 117 ۞ Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 And the sorcerers fell down prostrate. 120 And said: "We have come to believe in the Lord of all the worlds, 121 “The Lord of Moosa and Haroon.” 122 Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences). 123 “I swear I will cut off your hands and your feet from alternate sides and then crucify you all.” 124 They answered: "Verily, unto our Sustainer do we turn 125 You would punish us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they were shown to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us, and cause us to die in a state of submission to You." 126
