The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: Lo! this is some knowing wizard, 109 who seeks to drive you out from your land. What would you have us do?' 110 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- 111 And bring up to thee all (our) sorcerers well-versed." 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and said: 'Shall we have a reward if we win?' 113 He answered: Yes, and surely ye shall be of those brought near (to me). 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 He said: cast ye. Then when they cast down, they enchanted the eyes of the people, and terrified them and brought mighty magic to bear. 116 We said to Moses: "Throw down your staff;" and it swallowed up their conjurations in no time. 117 ۞ So, the truth prevailed and what they were doing was annulled; 118 Thus were they there defeated and brought low. 119 threw themselves down in prostration 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "You have believed in him [Musa (Moses)] before I give you permission. Surely, this is a plot which you have plotted in the city to drive out its people, but you shall come to know. 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all!" 124 They said: Surely to our Lord shall we go back: 125 You would punish us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they were shown to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us, and cause us to die in a state of submission to You." 126
