Said the chieftains of Firaun’s people, “He is really an expert magician.” 109 "He wishes to drive you away from the land. So what do you advise?" 110 They answered: "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send unto all cities heralds 111 who should bring to you every skillful magician." 112 The sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: 'Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners' 113 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 114 They said: 'Moses, will you throw first or shall we be the throwers' 115 He answered: "You throw [first]." And when they threw down [their staffs,] they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and struck them with awe, and produced mighty sorcery. 116 And We inspired Moses (saying): Throw thy staff! And lo! it swallowed up their lying show. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 Thus they were overcome and made to look abject. 119 And the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 120 They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron!" 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all." 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]." 126
