Said the Council of the people of Pharaoh, 'Surely this man is a cunning sorcerer 109 who desires to expel you from your land; what do you command?' 110 They said: Put him off and his brother, and send collectors into the cities: 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, saying, 'We shall surely have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 113 He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)." 114 They said: "O Moses! wilt thou throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 He said: Throw! And when they threw they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and overawed them, and produced a mighty spell. 116 We inspired Moses to throw his staff, and suddenly it began to swallow-up all that the magicians had (falsely) invented. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 They were therefore defeated here and they turned back humiliated. 119 And the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 120 They said: We believe in the Lord of the worlds, 121 the Sustainer of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 "I will have your hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, and have you all crucified." 124 They said: verily unto our Lord we are turning. 125 And you do not take revenge on us except because we have believed in the communications of our Lord when they came to us! Our Lord: Pour out upon us patience and cause us to die in submission. 126
