The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: Lo! this is some knowing wizard, 109 "He wishes to drive you away from the land. So what do you advise?" 110 They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, saying, 'We shall surely have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 113 Pharaoh replied, "Certainly, and you shall also become my courtiers." 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 He said: Throw! And when they threw they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and overawed them, and produced a mighty spell. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed, and that which they had brought vanished. 118 Thus were they there defeated and brought low. 119 And the magicians were obliged to fall prostrate. 120 They said: "We believe in the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 I will cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and then crucify you all' 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 "But thou dost wreak thy vengeance on us simply because we believed in the Signs of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience and constancy, and take our souls unto thee as Muslims (who bow to thy will)! 126
