Said the chieftains of Firaun’s people, “He is really an expert magician.” 109 "He wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?" 110 They said: Put him off and his brother, and send collectors into the cities: 111 To bring each knowing wizard unto thee. 112 The sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: 'Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners' 113 He answered: Yes, and surely ye shall be of those brought near (to me). 114 They said: "O Moses! wilt thou throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 So they were defeated there and then, and were returned disgraced. 119 And the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves. 120 And said: "We have come to believe in the Lord of all the worlds, 121 The Lord of Musa and Harun. 122 Firon said: Do you believe in Him before I have given you permission? Surely this is a plot which you have secretly devised in this city, that you may turn out of it its people, but you shall know: 123 Surely I will cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides and thereafter I will crucify you all. 124 They said, 'Surely unto our Lord we are turning. 125 Thou takest vengeance upon us only because we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour out upon us patience, and gather us unto Thee surrendering.' 126
