Said the chieftains of Firaun’s people, “He is really an expert magician.” 109 "He wishes to drive you away from the land. So what do you advise?" 110 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send announcers to the cities to gather people.” 111 That they may bring to you every enchanter possessed of knowledge. 112 And the magicians came to Firaun, and said, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 113 He said: "Yes, and moreover you will (in that case) be of the nearest (to me)." 114 They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Either you throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 "You cast it first," answered Moses. When they cast their spell, they bewitched the eyes of the people and petrified them by conjuring up a great charm. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ Thus the truth was upheld, and the falsehood that they practised was exposed. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and put to shame, 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron' 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all." 124 They said: "Verily, we are returning to our Lord. 125 "But thou dost wreak thy vengeance on us simply because we believed in the Signs of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience and constancy, and take our souls unto thee as Muslims (who bow to thy will)! 126
