Said the Chiefs of the people of Pharaoh: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed. 109 who seeks to drive you out from your land. What would you have us do?' 110 Others said: 'Put them off a while, he and his brother, and send forth to your cities gatherers 111 Who will bring you every learned magician." 112 And the sorcerers came unto Pharaoh [and] said: "Verily, we ought to have a great reward if it is we who prevail." 113 The Pharaoh replied, "In addition to your rewards, you will become my close friends thereafter." 114 They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Either you throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 And We inspired Musa (Moses) (saying): "Throw your stick," and behold! It swallowed up straight away all the falsehoods which they showed. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 And the sorcerers fell down prostrate. 120 saying, "We declare our belief in the Lord of the Universe, 121 "The Lord of Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)." 122 Pharaoh said: Ye believe in Him before I give you leave! Lo! this is the plot that ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive its people hence. But ye shall come to know! 123 most certainly shall I cut off your hands and your feet in great numbers, because of [your] perverseness, and then I shall most certainly crucify you, in great numbers, all together!" 124 They said, 'Surely unto our Lord we are turning. 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
