The chiefs of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer; 109 who desires to expel you from your land; what do you command?' 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 To bring each knowing wizard unto thee. 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and said: 'Shall we have a reward if we win?' 113 'Yes' he answered, 'and you will be among those near' 114 They said, "Moses, will you first throw, or shall we?" 115 He [Musa (Moses)] said: "Throw you (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them, and they displayed a great magic. 116 We said to Moses: "Throw down your staff;" and it swallowed up their conjurations in no time. 117 ۞ whereupon the truth was established, and vain was proved all that they had been doing. 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 threw themselves down in prostration 120 They said, 'We believe in the Lord of all Being, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Firon said: Do you believe in Him before I have given you permission? Surely this is a plot which you have secretly devised in this city, that you may turn out of it its people, but you shall know: 123 I shall cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides, and then crucify you all.' 124 They answered: "Verily, unto our Sustainer do we turn 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
