The nobles of Pharaoh said: "He surely is a clever magician. 109 who seeks to drive you out from your land. What would you have us do?' 110 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- 111 To bring each knowing wizard unto thee. 112 And so the sorcerers came to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). They said: "Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors." 113 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 114 They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Either you throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 He answered: "You throw [first]." And when they threw down [their staffs,] they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and struck them with awe, and produced mighty sorcery. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ Thus the truth was upheld, and the falsehood that they practised was exposed. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and utterly humiliated. 119 And down fell the sorcerers, prostrating themselves 120 They said: "We believe in the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron' 122 Said Firaun, “You have accepted faith in Him before I gave you permission! This is indeed a grand conspiracy you have plotted in the city, in order to expel its people from it; so now you will come to know!” 123 I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all." 124 They said: Surely to our Lord shall we go back: 125 "The only reason you have to hate us is that we believed in the signs of our Lord as they came to us. O our Lord, give us sufficient endurance that we may die submitting (to You)." 126
