Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician 109 who seeks to drive you out from your land. What would you have us do?' 110 They answered: "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send unto all cities heralds 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 And the enchanters came to Firon (and) said: We must surely have a reward if we are the prevailing ones. 113 He said: yea! and verily ye shall be of those brought nigh. 114 They said, 'Moses, wilt thou cast, or shall we be the casters?' 115 He [Musa (Moses)] said: "Throw you (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them, and they displayed a great magic. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 And down fell the sorcerers, prostrating themselves 120 Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron' 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 "Be sure I will cut off your hands and your feet on apposite sides, and I will cause you all to die on the cross." 124 They replied: 'We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]." 126
