Said the Council of the people of Pharaoh, 'Surely this man is a cunning sorcerer 109 He intends to turn you out of your land. What counsel do you then give? 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (awhile) and send out heralds to the cities 111 "To bring all the wise magicians to you." 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and said: 'Shall we have a reward if we win?' 113 'Yes' he answered, 'and you will be among those near' 114 They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Either you throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing. 118 And Pharaoh and his people were overcome right there and became debased. 119 And the wizards fell down prostrate, 120 Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences). 123 Surely I shall have your hands and feet cut off upon alternate sides. Then I shall crucify you every one. 124 The magicians said, "We will certainly return to Our Lord. 125 And what is it for which thou takest vengeance on us save that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came unto us? Our Lord! pour out upon us perseverance and cause us to die as Muslims. 126
