The chiefs of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer; 109 He would drive you forth from your land; so what is it that ye enjoin? 110 They said, 'Put him and his brother off a while, and send among the cities musterers, 111 And bring up to thee all (our) sorcerers well-versed." 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh. They said, "Indeed for us is a reward if we are the predominant." 113 Pharaoh replied, "Certainly, and you shall also become my courtiers." 114 They said: O Musa! will you cast, or shall we be the first to cast? 115 He said, "Throw," and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic. 116 We said to Moses: "Throw down your staff;" and it swallowed up their conjurations in no time. 117 ۞ So the truth was proved and their works were disproved. 118 Thus there and then they were vanquished and overthrown, humiliated. 119 And the sorcerers fell down prostrate. 120 They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 I shall cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides, and then crucify you all.' 124 They said, 'Surely unto our Lord we are turning. 125 And what is it for which thou takest vengeance on us save that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came unto us? Our Lord! pour out upon us perseverance and cause us to die as Muslims. 126
