The nobles of Pharaoh said: "He surely is a clever magician. 109 who wants to drive you out of your land! " [Said Pharaoh:] "What, then, do you advise?" 110 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- 111 And bring up to thee all (our) sorcerers well-versed." 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh. They said, "Indeed for us is a reward if we are the predominant." 113 The Pharaoh replied, "In addition to your rewards, you will become my close friends thereafter." 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 He [Musa (Moses)] said: "Throw you (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them, and they displayed a great magic. 116 And we revealed unto Musa: cast down thy rod. And lo! it was swallowing up that which they had feigned. 117 ۞ Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 and the sorcerers prostrated themselves, 120 saying, "We declare our belief in the Lord of the Universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 But Pharaoh said: "You have come to accept belief in Him without my permission! This surely is a plot you have hatched to expel the people from the land. You will soon come to know. 123 "I will have your hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, and have you all crucified." 124 They replied: 'We shall surely turn to our Lord. 125 "But thou dost wreak thy vengeance on us simply because we believed in the Signs of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience and constancy, and take our souls unto thee as Muslims (who bow to thy will)! 126
