The great ones among Pharaoh's people said: "Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge, 109 "He wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?" 110 Others said: 'Put them off a while, he and his brother, and send forth to your cities gatherers 111 "That they bring up to you all well-versed sorcerers." 112 And the wizards came to Pharaoh, saying: Surely there will be a reward for us if we are victors. 113 He said: "Yes, and moreover you will (in that case) be of the nearest (to me)." 114 They said: O Musa! either thou cast down, or we shall be the ones to cast down. 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 And We inspired Moses (saying): Throw thy staff! And lo! it swallowed up their lying show. 117 ۞ So, the truth prevailed and what they were doing was annulled; 118 The magicians who were defeated on the spot and were proved to be worthless, 119 And down fell the sorcerers, prostrating themselves 120 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences). 123 "Be sure I will cut off your hands and your feet on apposite sides, and I will cause you all to die on the cross." 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 And you do not take revenge on us except because we have believed in the communications of our Lord when they came to us! Our Lord: Pour out upon us patience and cause us to die in submission. 126
