Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician 109 who wants to drive you out of your land! " [Said Pharaoh:] "What, then, do you advise?" 110 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- 111 who should bring to you every skillful magician." 112 The sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: 'Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners' 113 Answered [Pharaoh]: "Yes; and verily, you shall be among those who are near unto me." 114 They said: O Musa! either thou cast down, or we shall be the ones to cast down. 115 He replied, "Throw yours first." Their great magic bewitched people's eyes and terrified them. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 Thus were they there defeated and brought low. 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the universe, 121 "The Lord of Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)." 122 Firon said: Do you believe in Him before I have given you permission? Surely this is a plot which you have secretly devised in this city, that you may turn out of it its people, but you shall know: 123 "I will have your hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, and have you all crucified." 124 They replied: 'We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 “And what did you dislike in us, except that we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Pour (bestow abundantly) patience on us, and bestow us death as Muslims.” 126
