The chiefs of the people of Fir'awn said: verily this is a magician knowing. 109 and said, "He wants to expel you from your land." They asked (others), " what is your opinion in the matter? 110 They said, "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send into the cities summoners, 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 So there came the sorcerers to Pharaoh: They said, "of course we shall have a (suitable) reward if we win!" 113 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 114 They said: O Musa! either thou cast down, or we shall be the ones to cast down. 115 He answered: "You throw [first]." And when they threw down [their staffs,] they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and struck them with awe, and produced mighty sorcery. 116 We inspired Moses to throw his staff, and suddenly it began to swallow-up all that the magicians had (falsely) invented. 117 ۞ So, the truth prevailed and what they were doing was annulled; 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 saying, "We declare our belief in the Lord of the Universe, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences). 123 Surely I shall have your hands and feet cut off upon alternate sides. Then I shall crucify you every one. 124 They said: Lo! We are about to return unto our Lord! 125 You only take revenge on us because we believed in the Lord when we saw His miracles. Lord, grant us patience and let us die Muslims (submitted to God)." 126
