1/4 Hizb 17
< random >
Said the Chiefs of the people of Pharaoh: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed. 109 "He wishes to drive you away from the land. So what do you advise?" 110 The others suggested holding Moses and his brother off and sending to all the cities 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 The sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: 'Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners' 113 Pharaoh replied: 'Certainly, and you shall be among those who are near to me.' 114 They said: "O Moses! Either thou shalt throw [thy staff first,] or we shall [be the first to] throw." 115 He said: Cast. So when they cast, they deceived the people's eyes and frightened them, and they produced a mighty enchantment. 116 And We inspired Musa (Moses) (saying): "Throw your stick," and behold! It swallowed up straight away all the falsehoods which they showed. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 [and] exclaiming: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 121 the Sustainer of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They said: "For us, We are but sent back unto our Lord: 125 "But thou dost wreak thy vengeance on us simply because we believed in the Signs of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience and constancy, and take our souls unto thee as Muslims (who bow to thy will)! 126
