Al-A 'araaf 14 of 24
Said the Chiefs of the people of Pharaoh: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed. 109 Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?" 110 The others suggested holding Moses and his brother off and sending to all the cities 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 So there came the sorcerers to Pharaoh: They said, "of course we shall have a (suitable) reward if we win!" 113 He said, "Yes, and, [moreover], you will be among those made near [to me]." 114 They said, “O Moosa! You may throw first – or shall we be the first to throw?” 115 He said: cast ye. Then when they cast down, they enchanted the eyes of the people, and terrified them and brought mighty magic to bear. 116 And [then] We inspired Moses, "Throw down thy staff!" - and lo! it swallowed up all their deceptions: 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 Thus there and then they were vanquished and overthrown, humiliated. 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 The Lord of Musa and Haroun. 122 Said Pharaoh, "You believed in him before I gave you permission. Indeed, this is a conspiracy which you conspired in the city to expel therefrom its people. But you are going to know. 123 Surely I shall have your hands and feet cut off upon alternate sides. Then I shall crucify you every one. 124 They said: verily unto our Lord we are turning. 125 "But thou dost wreak thy vengeance on us simply because we believed in the Signs of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience and constancy, and take our souls unto thee as Muslims (who bow to thy will)! 126

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
