The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said, "This is most surely a skillful magician, 109 He intends to turn you out of your land. What counsel do you then give? 110 They said, 'Put him and his brother off a while, and send among the cities musterers, 111 That they may bring to you every enchanter possessed of knowledge. 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said: "Is there reward for us if we succeed?" 113 "Yes," said he, "you will be among the honoured." 114 They said, "O Moses, either you throw [your staff], or we will be the ones to throw [first]." 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 Thus they were vanquished there, and they went back abased. 119 And the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves. 120 They said: We believe in the Lord of the worlds, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 “I swear I will cut off your hands and your feet from alternate sides and then crucify you all.” 124 They said: verily unto our Lord we are turning. 125 And what is it for which thou takest vengeance on us save that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came unto us? Our Lord! pour out upon us perseverance and cause us to die as Muslims. 126
