And most certainly did We overwhelm Pharaoh's people with drought and scarcity of fruits, so that they might take it to heart. 130 So, when good came to them, they said, 'This belongs to us'; but if any evil smote them, they would augur ill by Moses and those with him. Why, surely their ill augury was with God; but the most of them knew not. 131 They said: 'Whatever sign you bring to us, to cast a spell upon us, we will not believe in you' 132 So We sent on them: the flood, the locusts, the lice, the frogs, and the blood: (as a succession of) manifest signs, yet they remained arrogant, and they were of those people who were Mujrimun (criminals, polytheists, sinners, etc.). 133 And when the plague smote them, they said: 'Moses, pray to your Lord for us invoking the promise He has made with you. If you lift the plague from us, we will believe in you and let the Children of Israel go with you' 134 Consequently whenever We lifted the punishment from them for a term which they must reach, they used to then turn away. 135 So We punished them and drowned them in the sea, for they had belied Our signs and gave no heed to them. 136 And We made the people who were considered weak to inherit the eastern parts of the land and the western parts thereof which We have blessed. And the fair Word of your Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel, because of their endurance. And We destroyed completely all the great works and buildings which Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his people erected. 137 We took the Children of Israel (with safety) across the sea. They came upon a people devoted entirely to some idols they had. They said: "O Moses! fashion for us a god like unto the gods they have." He said: "Surely ye are a people without knowledge. 138 "As to these folk,- the cult they are in is (but) a fragment of a ruin, and vain is the (worship) which they practise." 139 "Do you want me to seek for you," he said, "a god other than God, when He has exalted you over all the nations of the world? 140 And [recall, O Children of Israel], when We saved you from the people of Pharaoh, [who were] afflicting you with the worst torment - killing your sons and keeping your women alive. And in that was a great trial from your Lord. 141
