Then seized We Pharaoh's people with years of dearth, and scarcity of fruits, that haply they might remember. 130 Yet when good came their way they said: "It is our due;" but when misfortune befell them they put the omen down to Moses and those who were with him. But surely the omen was with God, yet most of them did not understand. 131 And they said, 'Whatsoever sign thou bringest to us, to cast a spell upon us, we will not believe thee.' 132 Then We afflicted them with a great flood and locusts, and the lice, and the frogs, and the blood. All these were distinct signs and yet they remained haughty. They were a wicked people. 133 When the torment would strike them, they would ask Moses, "Pray for us to your Lord through your covenant with Him. If He saves us from the torment, we shall certainly believe in you and permit you and the children of Israel to leave". 134 Consequently whenever We lifted the punishment from them for a term which they must reach, they used to then turn away. 135 So We took vengeance on them, and drowned them in the sea, for that they cried lies to Our signs and heeded them not. 136 And We made a people, considered weak (and of no account), inheritors of lands in both east and west, - lands whereon We sent down Our blessings. The fair promise of thy Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel, because they had patience and constancy, and We levelled to the ground the great works and fine buildings which Pharaoh and his people erected (with such pride). 137 We brought the children of Israel across the sea and they came upon a people who were devoted to their idols. They said, "Moses, give us a god just like the gods these people have." He said, "You are indeed an ignorant people: 138 The way these people follow is bound to lead to destruction; and all their works are vain. 139 He said: "Shall I seek for you an Ilahan (a God) other than Allah, while He has given you superiority over the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns of your time)." 140 We delivered you from Pharaoh's people, who afflicted you with dreadful torment, slaying your male children and sparing only your daughters. That was surely a great trial for you by your Lord." 141
