۞ It is He who created you from a soul. From it He created its mate, so that he might reside with her. And when he had covered her, she conceived, and for a time her burden was light. She carried it with ease, but when it grew heavy, they both supplicated to Allah, their Lord: 'Grant us a goodly child and we will be among the thankful' 189 But when He vouchsafeth the twain a goodly child they set up unto Him associates in respect of that which He hath vouchsafed to them. Exalted be Allah far from that which they associate! 190 Do they associate with Him those who create nothing and they are [themselves] created? 191 They have no power to help others. nor can they help themselves. 192 Believers, even if you invite them to true guidance, they will not follow you. It makes no difference whether you invite them or whether you keep quiet. 193 Verily, all those whom you invoke beside God are but created beings like yourselves: invoke them, then, and let them answer your prayer - if what you claim is true! 194 Have they feet wherewith they wend? Have they hands wherewith they grip? Have they eyes wherewith they see? Have they ears wherewith they hearken? Say thou: call upon your associate gods, and then plot against me and respite me not. 195 Verily my protector is Allah who hath revealed the Book, and He protecteth the righteous. 196 "But those ye call upon besides Him, are unable to help you, and indeed to help themselves." 197 If thou callest them to guidance, they hear not. Thou wilt see them looking at thee, but they see not. 198 Be tolerant; enjoin what is right; and avoid the ignorant. 199 And if a slander from the devil wound thee, then seek refuge in Allah. Lo! He is Hearer, Knower. 200 Verily those who fear God think of Him when assailed by the instigations of Satan, and lo! they begin to understand, 201 And their brothers, they prolong them in error, and they will never stop. 202 And if you do not bring them a miracle [according to their (i.e. Quraish-pagans') proposal], they say: "Why have you not brought it?" Say: "I but follow what is revealed to me from my Lord. This (the Quran) is nothing but evidences from your Lord, and a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe." 203 So when the Qur'an is recited, then listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy. 204 And remember your Lord by your tongue and within yourself, humbly and with fear without loudness in words in the mornings, and in the afternoons and be not of those who are neglectful. 205 Behold, those who are near unto thy Sustainer are never too proud to worship Him; and they extol His limitless glory, and prostrate themselves before Him [alone]. ۩ 206
