The Spoils of War (Al-Anfaal)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ They ask thee concerning (things taken as) spoils of war. Say: "(such) spoils are at the disposal of Allah and the Messenger: So fear Allah, and keep straight the relations between yourselves: Obey Allah and His Messenger, if ye do believe." 1 Only they are true believers whose hearts fill up with awe when the name of God is mentioned; and their faith is further strengthened when His messages are read out to them; and those who place their trust in their Lord, 2 those who are constant in prayer and spend on others out of what We provide for them as sustenance: 3 Are true believers. There are for them (high) ranks with their Lord, and pardon and noble provision. 4 This is like what time thy Lord had caused thee to go forth from thy house for a right cause, while a party among the believers were averse. 5 Disputing with you regarding the truth after it had been made clear, as if they were being herded towards a visible death. 6 And when Allah promised you one of the two bands (of the enemy) that it should be yours, and ye longed that other than the armed one might be yours. And Allah willed that He should cause the Truth to triumph by His words, and cut the root of the disbelievers; 7 so that the truth would stand supreme and falsehood would exist no more, even though the criminals dislike it. 8 Remember when you prayed to your Lord for help, He heard you and said: "I shall send a thousand angels following behind you for your aid." 9 Allah only made it to be glad tidings and so that your hearts may be satisfied; victory comes only from Allah; He is Almighty, Wise. 10
