We grant a favor to the human being and then take it away from him. He becomes despairing and ungrateful. 9 If We let him taste Our favours after adversity, he says: "Misfortune has left me," and begins to brag and exult, 10 Save those who persevere and do good works. Theirs will be forgiveness and a great reward. 11 You may [feel the inclination] to leave aside a part of what is revealed to you and you may be distressed because they say, "Why has no treasure been sent down to him, why has no angel come with him?" But you are only to give warning. God is the guardian of all things. 12 Or they say: He hath invented it. Say: Then bring ten surahs, the like thereof, invented, and call on everyone ye can beside Allah, if ye are truthful! 13 But if they do not answer you, then know that it is revealed by Allah's knowledge and that there is no god but He; will you then submit? 14 We shall pay those who desire the present life and its adornments in full for the work they have done therein, they shall not be defrauded; 15 These are they for whom there is not in the Hereafter save the Fire; to naught shall come that which they have performed, and vain is that which they have been working 16 Can they be (like) those who accept a Clear (Sign) from their Lord, and whom a witness from Himself doth teach, as did the Book of Moses before it,- a guide and a mercy? They believe therein; but those of the Sects that reject it,- the Fire will be their promised meeting-place. Be not then in doubt thereon: for it is the truth from thy Lord: yet many among men do not believe! 17 And who does greater evil than he who forges against God a lie? Those shall be presented before their Lord, and the witnesses will say, 'Those are they who lied against their Lord.' Surely the curse of God shall rest upon the evildoers 18 who bar from God's way, desiring to make it crooked; they disbelieve in the world to come; 19 These could not escape on the earth, nor could there be for them protectors against Allah; doubled shall be the torment for them; they were not able to hearken, nor would they be clear sighted. 20 It is they who put their souls into ruin, and they lost all that they used to fabricate. 21 In the Hereafter, it is they who shall be the greatest losers. 22 Lo! those who believe and do good works and humble themselves before their Lord: such are rightful owners of the Garden; they will abide therein. 23 ۞ The likeness of the two parties is as one who is blind and deaf, and one that sees and hears, are they equally alike, will you not remember? 24
