The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)

286 verses, revealed in Medina after The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen) before The Spoils of War (Al-Anfaal)

In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate

Alif, Lam, Meem. 1 This is the Book; there is no doubt in it. It is a guide for those who are mindful of God, 2 the pious who believe in the unseen, attend to prayer, give in charity part of what We have granted them; 3 And who believe in that which has been bestowed from on high upon thee, [O Prophet,] as well as in that which was bestowed before thy time: for it is they who in their innermost are certain of the life to come! 4 It is the pious who follow the guidance of their Lord and gain lasting happiness. 5 As to those who reject Faith, it is the same to them whether thou warn them or do not warn them; they will not believe. 6 God has set a seal on their hearts and on their hearing, and on their eyes is a covering, and there awaits them a mighty chastisement. 7
