The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
286 verses, revealed in Medina after The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen) before The Spoils of War (Al-Anfaal)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Alif-Laam-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language; Allah and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 There is no doubt that this book is a guide for the pious; 2 who believe in the Unseen, and perform the prayer, and expend of that We have provided them; 3 And who believe in what has been revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what was revealed before you, and of the Hereafter they are certain [in faith]. 4 Such people are on the right way from their Lord and such are truly successful. 5 Those who disbelieve, whether you forewarn them or not, they will not believe. 6 Allah has set a seal on their hearts and on their hearings, (i.e. they are closed from accepting Allah's Guidance), and on their eyes there is a covering. Theirs will be a great torment. 7
