And do not think Allah to be heedless of what the unjust do; He only respites them to a day on which the eyes shall be fixedly open, 42 They running forward with necks outstretched, their heads uplifted, their gaze returning not towards them, and their hearts a (gaping) void! 43 (Muhammad), warn the people of the day when torment will approach them and the unjust will say, "Lord, give us respite for a little time so that we may answer your call and follow the Messengers." (The answer to their prayer will be), "Did you not swear before that you would never perish? 44 You said so even though you had lived in the dwellings of those who had wronged themselves (by sinning), and you were aware how We dealt with them, and We had even explained to you all this by giving examples. 45 And they had planned their plan, but with Allah is [recorded] their plan, even if their plan had been [sufficient] to do away with the mountains. 46 Therefore do not think Allah (to be one) failing in His promise to His apostles; surely Allah is Mighty, the Lord of Retribution. 47 [His promise will be fulfilled] on the Day when the earth shall be changed into another earth, as shall be the heavens and when [all men] shall appear before God, the One who holds absolute sway over all that exists. 48 And you will see the criminals that Day bound together in shackles, 49 their garments shall be black as if made out of pitch, and flames of the Fire shall cover their faces 50 Allah will recompense each soul according to its earnings. Swift is the Reckoning of Allah. 51 Here is a Message for mankind: Let them take warning therefrom, and let them know that He is (no other than) One Allah: let men of understanding take heed. 52
