The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book and (of) a Quran that makes (things) clear. 1 Oft times would those who disbelieve fain that they had been Muslims. 2 (Muhammad), leave them alone to eat and enjoy themselves and let their desires deceive them; they will soon know (the Truth). 3 Never a city have We destroyed, but it had a known decree, 4 No community precedeth the term thereof nor doth it fall behind. 5 They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)! 6 Why do you not bring down angels upon us if you are indeed truthful?" 7 We do not send angels except with the truth. Then they shall have no respite. 8 It is We who have sent down the Reminder and We will, most surely, safeguard it. 9 And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples. 10 and not a single Messenger came to them, but they mocked at him; 11 even so We cause it to enter into the hearts of the sinners -- 12 they believe not in it, though the wont of the ancients is already gone. 13 And if We opened upon them a door of the heaven, and they passed the day mounting thereto. 14 still they would say: 'Our eyes were dazzled; truly, we must have been a bewitched people' 15
