The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ AlifLaamRa. Those are the verses of the Book, the Clear Koran. 1 Oft times would those who disbelieve fain that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and for aspiration to involve them in play so they will shortly come to know. 3 And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree. 4 No people can outstrip the term for its destruction nor can it delay it. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the admonition hath been sent down! verily thou art possessed. 6 Why dost thou not bring the angels unto us, if thou speakest truly?' 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. 9 We verily sent (messengers) before thee among the factions of the men of old. 10 but there was never a messenger who came to them but they mocked him: 11 Even so We make a way for it (that is, the Admonition) in the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod); 12 That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away. 13 If We were even to open for them a way to the heavens, and they could continually climb up to it in broad daylight, 14 They will say all the same: "Our eyes were dazed (and clouded over). We were a people ensorcelled." 15

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
