The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. These are the verses of the Book, and a Qur'an luminous. 1 The unbelievers would haply like to wish that they had submitted (and become Muslim). 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 Whenever We destroyed a town, a definite term had previously been decreed for it. 4 No community precedeth the term thereof nor doth it fall behind. 5 They say: 'You to whom the Remembrance is sent down, you are indeed mad. 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us if thou art of the truthtellers! 7 We send not down the angels, save with truth; 8 then they would not be respited. It is We who have sent down the Remembrance, and We watch over it. 9 And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples. 10 But never came a messenger to them but they mocked him. 11 This is how We cause the hearts of the guilty ones to behave. 12 they do not believe in it. This has been the wont of people of this kind from ancient times. 13 and even if We opened to them a door from heaven, and they began ascending through it, 14 still they would say: 'Our eyes were dazzled; truly, we must have been a bewitched people' 15

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
