The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ ALIF LAM RA. These are the verses of the Book and the perspicuous oration. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know. 3 Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand. 4 No nation can anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the admonition hath been sent down! verily thou art possessed. 6 Why do you not bring down the angels if what you say is true". 7 We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved. 8 Verily We! it is We who have revealed the admonition, and verily We are the guardians thereof. 9 We sent messengers before you to the previous peoples, 10 But never once an apostle came to them at whom they did not scoff. 11 We place in the hearts of sinners (disbelief). 12 So, they will not believe in it: The example of former people is there. 13 If We were even to open for them a way to the heavens, and they could continually climb up to it in broad daylight, 14 They would only say: "Our eyes have been intoxicated: Nay, we have been bewitched by sorcery." 15
