The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an. 1 A time will surely come when those who are bent on denying the truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God, 2 leave them to eat, and to take their joy, and to be bemused by hope; certainly they will soon know! 3 And We destroyed no township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No community precedeth the term thereof nor doth it fall behind. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the admonition hath been sent down! verily thou art possessed. 6 Why do you not bring to us the angels if you are of the truthful ones? 7 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited. 8 As for the Admonition, indeed it is We Who have revealed it and it is indeed We Who are its guardians. 9 And certainly We sent (apostles) before you among the nations of yore. 10 But never once an apostle came to them at whom they did not scoff. 11 Even so We make a way for it (that is, the Admonition) in the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod); 12 they do not believe in it. This has been the wont of people of this kind from ancient times. 13 Had We opened a door for them in the sky through which they could easily pass, 14 Even then they would say, “Our sights have been hypnotised – in fact, a magic spell has been cast upon us.” 15
