The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra; these are verses of the Book and the bright Qur’an. 1 Oft times would those who disbelieve fain that they had been Muslims. 2 leave them to eat, and to take their joy, and to be bemused by hope; certainly they will soon know! 3 And every dwelling that We destroyed, had a known decree for it. 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 “Why do you not bring angels to us, if you are truthful?” 7 We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have! 8 Surely We have revealed the Reminder and We will most surely be its guardian. 9 We sent Messengers to the ancient people who lived before you. 10 And whenever a Messenger came to them, they never failed to mock him. 11 Thus do We let it (polytheism and disbelief) enter into the hearts of the Mujrimun [criminals, polytheists, pagans, etc. (because of their mockery at the Messengers)]. 12 So, they will not believe in it: The example of former people is there. 13 And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue ascending thereto, 14 They would surely say: "Our eyes have been (as if) dazzled. Nay, we are a people bewitched." 15
