The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ A. L. R. These are the Ayats of Revelation,- of a Qur'an that makes things clear. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them that they may eat and enjoy themselves and (that) hope may beguile them, for they will soon know. 3 We never destroyed any town without pre-ordaining the fate of its people. 4 No nation can anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the admonition hath been sent down! verily thou art possessed. 6 Why dost thou not bring the angels unto us, if thou speakest truly?' 7 We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved. 8 Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Quran) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption). 9 We sent Messengers to the ancient people who lived before you. 10 And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock him. 11 This is how We cause the hearts of the guilty ones to behave. 12 they do not believe in it. This has been the wont of people of this kind from ancient times. 13 And if We open for them a gate in the heavens, to ascend it through the day – 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
