The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 so leave them to eat and enjoy themselves and let them be beguiled by vain hopes; for soon they will realise [the truth]. 3 Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand. 4 No community precedeth the term thereof nor doth it fall behind. 5 They say: 'Thou, upon whom the Remembrance is sent down, thou art assuredly possessed! 6 "Why bringest thou not angels to us if it be that thou hast the Truth?" 7 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited. 8 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. 9 And assuredly We have sent apostles before thee among the sects of the ancients. 10 And never came there unto them a messenger but they did mock him. 11 thus We cause this [habit of mocking] to enter into the hearts of the sinful. 12 they do not believe in it. This has been the wont of people of this kind from ancient times. 13 And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue ascending thereto, 14 They would surely say: intoxicated have been our sights; aye! we are a people enchanted. 15
