The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. These are the verses of the Book, and a Qur'an luminous. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope. They will come to know! 3 And every dwelling that We destroyed, had a known decree for it. 4 and no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 Why do you not bring down the angels, if what you say is true' 7 We do not send angels except with the truth. Then they shall have no respite. 8 Lo! We, even We, reveal the Reminder, and lo! We verily are its Guardian. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 But never came a messenger to them but they mocked him. 11 Even so do We [now] cause this [scorn of Our message] to pervade the hearts of those who are lost in sin, 12 So, they will not believe in it: The example of former people is there. 13 Though We opened to them a gate in heaven, and still they mounted through it, 14 They will say all the same: "Our eyes were dazed (and clouded over). We were a people ensorcelled." 15
