The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)

In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are the verses of the Book and the glorious Quran. 1 Again and again will those who disbelieve, wish that they had bowed (to Allah's will) in Islam. 2 Let them eat and enjoy life, and let (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know! 3 Not one habitation have We destroyed but at the time determined for it. 4 No nation can anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 And they said, “O you upon whom the Qur’an has been sent, you are indeed insane.” 6 Why dost thou not bring before us angels, if thou art a man of truth? 7 We do not send angels except with the truth. Then they shall have no respite. 8 Lo! We, even We, reveal the Reminder, and lo! We verily are its Guardian. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 thus We cause this [habit of mocking] to enter into the hearts of the sinful. 12 That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away. 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 They will say all the same: "Our eyes were dazed (and clouded over). We were a people ensorcelled." 15

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
